2009 focus: College of Eastern Utah

The College of Eastern Utah is located in Price, UT. The Golden Eagles are lead by head coach Chris Craig. This season the Golden Eagles are looking to try improve on their (17-15) record from last season in the always tough Scenic West Conference with the likes of College of Southern Idaho, Salt Lake Community College and North Idaho College. JucoJunction had a chance to touch base with head coach Chris Craig on some of his Golden Eagles for this upcoming season.
Darrington Hobson, (SO) 6-foot-7 from Las Vegas, NV, returns to the Golden Eagles after averaging 18.4 ppg, 8.3 rebounds and 3 assists last season. The very talented 1-3 man can is very versatile. Hobson was a third team All American last season. Darrington signed with the University of New Mexico coming out of high school in Decatur, IL at Decatur Christian. Hobson only played his senior season at Decatur Christian.

New Mexico, Oklahoma and LSU are all expressing interest in Hobson this summer according to coach Craig. Hobson shot 49.3% (171-347) from the floor last season.
Mike Scott, (SO) 6-foot-0 (175), is from Philadelphia, PA. Scott is a transfer from Texas Christian University. Mike averaged 3.3 ppg in 29 games last season for the Horned Frogs. Mike prepped at Philadelphia Lutheran Christian School. Scott is getting a lot of interest already this summer according to coach Craig. Arkansas-Little Rock-offered, Weber State, Lamar University, Fresno State and San Francisco are keeping tabs on the point guard.
Stephen Franklin, (SO) 6-foot-6 from Aurora, CO, is back after averaging 9 ppg and 4.6 rebounds last season for the Golden Eagles. Franklin a wing player is receiving early interest from UT-San Antonio, Arkansas-Little Rock, Santa Clara and Pepperdine according to Craig.
Aaron England, (SO) 6-foot-5 from West Valley, UT, has decided to return to the Golden Eagles this fall. England had signed with UC Irvine last fall. England averaged 5.2 ppg from the two guard spot last season.
Two newcomers this season to the Golden Eagles via the transfer route are Jonathan Scott and Tim Kiewel. Scott and Kiewel both played at Eastern Arizona College for then assistant coach Anthony Owens. Owens has joined the staff this season at the College of Eastern Utah. Scott, (SO) 6-foot-8 (205), hails from Portland, OR and Kiewel, 6-foot-10 (245), is from Parma, OH.
Scott averaged 6.6 ppg and 3.5 rebounds last season for the Gila Monsters while Kiewel saw action in 17 games at 2.2 ppg. Kiewel was a academic qualifer coming out of high school and then prepped a season at Boys to Men Academy in Chicago,IL.
Look for the Golden Eagles to make some noise this season in the Scenic West Conference.
