A Look at Bevill States Felix

Jean Felix, a 6-7, 210 pound small forward from Bevill State C.C. in Jasper, Ala., is one of the better wing prospects in the JC Class of 2004.
JUCO Junction had a chance to catch Felix in action on Thursday evening at Shelton State C.C. in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where Bevill State was one of four teams in a mini-jamboree.

A native of Paris, France, Felix is a finesse oriented player who can really shoot the basketball. He can put the ball on the floor a bit and is an adequate passer and defender.
"He has to become more of a no nonsense player," Bevill State Head Coach Chris Trawick said. "A lot of times when foreign kids come over here, they want to do so much with the ball, things that they don't have to do. He has to simplify his game a bit and become more consistent."
One area where Felix struggled on Thursday was when he was pressured handling the basketball. He's an adequate ball handler in the open floor, but when two or three defenders collapse on him, Felix can be turnover prone.
"In order for him to be the same kind of player in the SEC, he has to understand that he can't put it on the floor a lot," Trawick said. "He handles it well, but he handles at it the wrong time, like when a guy is up underneath his chin."
Felix does possess a nice feel for the game of basketball. He's a good outlet passer who can find teammates ahead of the field for easy baskets, and he's not averse to sharing the basketball in halfcourt sets.
"He knows how to play the game," Trawick said. "He's very strong, athletic, makes shots, he's just a very gifted kid."
If Felix can continue to simplify his game, Trawick feels that the sky is the limit for him at the next level.
"He wants to finesse you too much at times," Trawick said. "Instead of making one move and scoring, he wants to make two moves, but he's better at that now than he was last year."
Felix, who will sign with Alabama next month, is expected to graduate from Bevill in the spring of 2004.
