A Look at Kevin Mickens

Kevin Mickens, a 6-9, 225 pound power forward from Allegany J.C. in Cumberland, Md., played well last Friday when JUCO Junction scouted him at the Maryland State JUCO Tournament.
Mickens scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half as Allegany blew open a tight contest and cruised to a 100-82 victory over Hagerstown C.C.

Despite his size, Mickens' mobility and athleticism make him a dangerous weapon on the offensive side of the ball. He's always been a skilled big man who can face the basket, and he showed that last Friday by hitting several jumpers (including a three pointer) in the win over Hagerstown.
"You'd be surprised at the levels he's being recruited at, because people thought he was a mid-major coming out of high school," Allegany Head Coach Bob Kirk said. "He's getting looks from every conference now."
Mickens, a product of Mt. St. Joseph H.S. in Baltimore, Md., took only one official visit thus far to Virginia Tech. George Mason and Charlotte were among the colleges at his game on Friday at the Maryland JUCO Tournament.
Out of high school, Mickens signed with St. Bonaventure when Jim Baron was the head coach at the Atlantic 10 school. Coach Kirk said he has received a phone call this winter from Bonnies' Asst. Coach Billy McCaffery, but St. Bonaventure will likely have to go against a number of high major programs to get Mickens this spring.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on Mickens, as well as other top JC prospects in the Class of 2003, so stay tuned!
