Another Odessa player makes his choice

Another Odessa College sophomore is heading on to college basketball's highest level. A little while back, Jamel Guyton inked a letter-of-intent to continue his career at Louisiana Tech and now his backcourt mate DelRico Lane will be joining him. The smart 6-foot, 185-pound point guard originally from Greensboro, Florida was just starting to see his recruitment pick up, but after making his first official visit he decided no more trips were needed.
"Delrico has signed with Tennessee-Martin," said Odessa assistant coach Mike Scutero. "They've been recruiting him for awhile and wanted to get him out on a visit, so he took one this past weekend and it was simple as that. He really liked it there and felt that he could play there. It's a good all-around program and they did a great job recruiting him."

After largely riding underneath the recruiting radar for much of the season, calls were starting to come in heavy for the steady point guard who averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 3.0 steals this past season at Odessa, with schools like Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, San Francisco, and Centenary all talking about bringing him on campus for a visit. But after getting a good look at the rising Ohio Valley Conference program, Lane felt no need to see anything else.
"It's close to his parents who live in Florida, which will be good as they only got to come and see one game of his while he was here at Odessa," Scutero said. "It's a good location for him."
In truth, the Skyhawks might just be getting a steal of a floor leader according to his coach. "Delrico had an unbelievable year and he's one of the better point guards not as much on the map as he should be," said Odessa assistant coach Mike Scutero. "He's a true point guard that scores when he needs to. He does a great job of getting the ball to guys who score points and also does a tremendous job defensively. He's a leader and will be really good at the Division I level."
