Anthonys Recruitment Still Taking Shape

In many ways, Joel Anthony's game and recruitment are still taking shape this winter.
Anthony, a 6-9, 235 pound center from Montreal, Quebec, is a sophomore at Pensacola Junior College in Florida.

Anthony is one of several sophomore big men on the Pirate front line, and he's not one counted on for offensive production.
JUCO Junction had a chance to catch Anthony in action last Saturday at the Florida JUCO Shootout in Gainesville. In a 71-65 win over Daytona Beach C.C., Anthony logged 18 minutes, scoring two points and grabbing five rebounds.
In an earlier interview this fall with JUCO Junction, Pensacola Head Coach Paul Swanson cited that Anthony is limited from an offensive standpoint. That point was etched out in the contest we viewed at the Florida JUCO Shootout.
On the plus side, Anthony is mobile and has a terrific wingspan. He is expected to graduate in the summer of 2004.
According to Coach Swanson, not much has happened with Anthony's recruitment since the fall. Nebraska and Maine have expressed interest, but no Pirate player will take any official visits until the end of the basketball season.
JUCO Junction will certainly keep an eye on Anthony, as well as other big men on the radar screen. Stay tuned!
