Bakersfield finally getting some attention

The Renegades of Bakersfield College had a great season this year at 30-3. Head Coach Rich Hughes, in his second year of running the program, tied for the league championship with College of the Canyons and lost in the 2nd Round of the State Tourney to Santa Ana. JucoJunction took sometime to touch base with Coach Hughes today on his players recruitment.
Terrence Johns: (SO) 6-foot-3 (195) from Chicago, IL. Johns had a stellar career for the Renegades.

"Terrence is a helluva scorer, last year he was a power slasher; this year has improved on his jumper," said Hughes.
Johns started off taking classes part-time at Los Angeles Valley CC back in the 2004-2005 season. Terrance was voted Mr. Basketball in the Southern part of California this past season. Johns has been All-State both years at Bakersfield and was MVP at five out of six tourneys this season. Montana State, Portland State, UT-San Antonio, TCU and Montana are showing interest in the talented player from Chicago Orr High School.
Johns averaged 22.7 ppg this season while shooting 41% (97-236) from three-point range and 49.8% (253-508) from the floor. Terrance scored over 1,350 career points and made 162 three pointers in two seasons at BC.
Andrew Ready: (SO) 6-foot-1 (185) from Chicago, IL.
"Andrew is our secondary point guard," said Hughes.
The former Chicago Westinghouse player greyshirted at Los Angeles Valley back in the 200-2005 season with Johns.
"Andrew is a lock down defender, he's our glue guy," said Hughes.
Ready averaged 8.9 ppg this season after getting 10.4 ppg as a freshman. Utah Valley State is recruiting Andrew currently.
Steve Alford: (SO) 6-foot-5 (180) from Bakersfield, CA. The multi-talented guard can play the one, two or three positions on the floor. Steve has been a All- Conference 1st team performer for the past two seasons for the Renegades. Alford averaged 11.8 ppg this season while shooting 38.8% (54-139) from three-point range. Portland State, Albany and a host of D2 schools are recruiting him.
"Steve is a very smooth player that is really athletic and can hit open shots," said Hughes.
Demetrius Williamson: (FR) 6-foot-6 (195) from Chicago, IL. Williamson will take a official visit this weekend to Niagara. Demetrius attended the University of Missouri last season on a track scholarship. He then decided he wanted to play on the basketball team as a walk-on. Williamson never took the floor for the Tigers and redshirted and enrolled in Bakersfield in late August of this past year. Demetrius will have three years left to play at the next level.
"Demetrius is a track athlete with a big upside," said Hughes. The combo forward is also receiving interest from Cornell and Dartmouth.
Aaron Perez: (SO) 6-foot-6 (185) from Pomona, CA has decided to attend California Baptist (NAIA) next season and Lawrence Billings, (SO) 6-foot-7 (205) from Visalia, CA, is receiving some D2-NAIA interest.
