Bakersfield trio set to open season

Schools all over the west are keeping an eye on Bakersfield College this year. Three players from the school may be playing Division One ball next year.
All three are waiting until the spring to sign with anyone, but we got the scoop from Bakersfield assistant Brent Davis.

Tyler Monk
Monk is a 5-foot-11 guard originally from Portland, Ore., who plays the shooting guard spot for Bakersfield.
“He can really shoot the lights out,” Davis said. “Last year as a freshman, he led us in scoring at about 13 a game, and he shot about 39 percent from three-point range. He had a pretty good year. He's playing well right now, and we're looking for him to have a good season for us.”
Monk can play both guard spots and will do so for Bakersfield this season. He has already taken visits to Portland State and Cal-State Fullerton, but opted not to sign anywhere.
Richard Moss
Moss is a 6-foot-4 wing player who is very versatile for Bakersfield. He's currently getting interest from St. Mary's and some other schools out west, according to Davis.
“He's a slasher type,” Davis said. “He can really shoot it; offensively, he's really good. He can score in a lot of different ways and he can handle the ball.”
Mario Malave
St. Mary's is also one of the schools after Malave, who is a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward. San Jose State and Utah State are also showing heavy interest right now.
“We're expecting a big season out of him,” Davis said. “He's originally from Oakland and came down here to play. We're not sure if he wants to get back to the Bay Area and whether that will be a factor.”
Bakersfield opens its season on Friday night against the College of the Seqouias.
