"We've had a whole lot of phone calls on Berend," Harcum Assistant Coach Steve Hobbs told TerrapinTimes.com. "We've had calls from high major schools (Oregon State, Ole Miss), mid majors, and low majors. It's run the gamut. Schools at this time of year are going to look hard at anyone still on the board who can play. And Berend has enough potential that schools at all levels are going to take a look."
Hobbs continued: "The thing is, Berend is a 6-10 high major athlete. He's not some guy who lumbers up and down the court. He can run. Berend had one game where he had 14 rebounds and 14 blocks in a game. Now again, that's not against North Carolina , mind you, but still, it shows the physical and athletic ability he possesses."
Weijs becomes the fifth Harcum sophomore to sign with an NCAA Division I program this year, joining teammates Antonio Bumpus (Utah St.), Wilbur O'Neal (Robert Morris), Diyaaldin Kelley (Maryland-Eastern Shore), and Jeremiah Bowman (Longwood). The 6'10" Weijs set school record by blocking 119 shots this season.
