Blinn prospect back on the market

Eric Whitehurst, (SO) 6-foot-9 from Norfolk, VA, has been released from his scholarship at Charlotte according to Blinn Head Coach Steve Spurlin.

"The paperwork has just gotten complete with Eric and Charlotte deciding on going separate ways," said Spurlin.

Whitehurst has visited Marquette and Charlotte in the early period. Virginia Tech, Miami (FL) and Idaho have now jumped into the picture and picked up on recruiting Eric.

Whitehurst played last season at Allegany CC (MD). Whitehurst is currently averaging 7.8 ppg and 6 rebounds for the Buccaneers.

There are some other Blinn players being recruited as well.

Tyson Johnson: (SO) 6-foot-6 (250) from Long Island, NY. Johnson is a combo forward more of a 4/3 type. Tyson transferred into Blinn this season from D1 Monmouth University. He played in 17 games last season at Monmouth and averaged 2.2 ppg. Tyson is currently averaging 18.6 ppg and 7 rebounds for Blinn College this season.

"Tyson is a very special player. He can go can inside-out and he's strong as a ox," said Spurlin.

Johnson scored 31 points versus Kilgore recently. UMKC and Miami (FL) are recruiting Tyson currently.

Darnell Hugee: (SO) 6-foot-6 from Brooklyn, NY was recently dismissed from the team. Hugee is still taking classes at Blinn. Darnell played last season at Eastern Oklahoma State College. Hugee was averaging 11.3 ppg and 6.8 rebounds at the time of his dismissal.
