Boise State Picks Up Late Offensive Punch

Jermaine Blackburn, a savvy 6-6, 210 pound small forward from SW Missouri/West Plains J.C. in West Plains, Mo., enrolled at Boise State this week.
Blackburn was one of the top players in Region 16 last winter. He led the Grizzlies in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He shot 45 percent from the field, 39 percent beyond the arc and 70 percent from the foul line last season for West Plains.

JUCO Junction recently confirmed Blackburn's commitment with West Plains Head Coach Tom Barr.
"Jermaine is a very good offensive player," Barr said. "He can score in a lot of different ways."
"He has a good feel for offense and reading screens," Barr continued. "He's a big wing who handles the ball well, but he must continue to improve on his defense."
This late in the game, Blackburn is a quality pick up for the Broncos. Earlier this summer, he appeared ticketed for Creighton, but the situation couldn't be worked out from an academic standpoint.
As a result, Blackburn found himself trying to graduate from West Plains this summer and looking for a four-year school to call home.
Earlier this month, Blackburn took official visits to Long Beach State and Boise State. He committed to Boise State shortly thereafter, but the school didn't make an official announcement since Blackburn couldn't sign a national letter of intent.
Blackburn will have two years of eligibility at Boise State, beginning with the 2003-2004 season.
