California big man headed to Boilers

Every year a few late surprises come out of the juco ranks to sign with high major schools. Butte College post player Chris Reid fits that bill. The 6-foot-9 Reid signed with Purdue very late in the process.
"He had some attention during the year, had some people inquiring," said Butte coach Russ Critchfield. "If you didn't see Chris play, you're not going to be intrigued by his stats, but if you saw him play two or three times, he's really, kids are sleepers. He's got a really good upside and he will be a really nice player for them."

Reid battled injuries for a couple of seasons, and played his first complete season for Butte this year. He averaged about eight points and five rebounds per game.
"He runs the floor really well for a big kid. He's got good hands and plays really hard," Critchfield said. "He is a physical player, can score facing the basket or with his back to the basket and he is very unselfish. He rebounds his position well and defends big guys pretty well."
Reid had attention from UC-Santa Barbara, New Mexico State, Colorado State, Pacific, Central Connecticut State, and visited Idaho State.
Critchfield said he will be in West Lafayette for the summer.
