Carolina tournament rolling on

JucoJunction spent yesterday in Rock Hill, SC for the Region X basketball tourney. The North Carolina/South Carolina Region is down to four teams today. Here are the results from yesterday the quarterfinal games.
Spartanburg Methodist College defeated Denmark Tech 71-55. The second seeded Pioneers were led in scoring by freshman Tim Budd with 12 points and freshman Jonathan Jones, also with 12 points. Budd, 6-foot-9 (266), also recorded 9 rebounds in the Pioneers victory.

The second game of the day featured Brunswick Community College and USC Salkehatchie. The Dolphins the number three seed squeaked out the victory at 88-85. Tyree Graham, the runner-up for player of the year, led the Dolphins with 25 points. Chris Smith scored 19 points and fellow freshman Keshawn Yarborough added 15 points. The Dolphins will now play Spartanburg Methodist College at six on Friday. USC Salkehatchie was led in scoring by Region X player of the year Brandon Riley with 24 points (20 points after intermission). Freshman Darnell Jackson added 16 points and Mari Konate added 14 points for the Indians in the loss.
The nightcap featured the host school Clinton Junior College Golden Bears beating Aiken Tech 68-63. The Golden Bears were lead in scoring by James Shambley with 24 points. Ashmere Wilson added 15 points and freshman point guard David Brown scored 13. The Golden Bears the number five seed will now play Cape Fear Community College at 8 p.m. on Friday. The Sea Devils are currently ranked #23 in the nation and are the number one seed in the Region X Tourney. The Sea Devils had a bye since Region X has just seven programs playing Division One basketball. Aiken Tech was led in scoring by first team all-region performer and freshman Anthony Rapley with 20 points.
JucoJunction will keep you posted on the results from Region X throughout the weekend as the winner will be crowned at about 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The winner of Region X will play East Mississippi Community College in Hutchinson, KS.
