Cecil sending five on to Division One

Monday was a busy day at Cecil Community College.
"We had four guys sign," said head coach Bill Lewit. "That makes five overall."

Craig Winder had already inked a national letter of intent with Texas, but four of his teammates also signed up to play Division One ball next season.
Guard Michael Baskerville will head to Campbell next year.
"Mike Baskerville is a strong, physical combo guard," Lewit said. "He really is capable of making plays for himself or for his teammates at any time."
The other three players to sign yesterday will all head to Quinnipiac. We got the rundown on each.
"Adam Gonzalez is just a clutch performer," Lewit said. "He knew when to shoot, knew when to pass. He just had a knack of making the right play at the right time."
"Chris Wehye is the most versatile player I have ever coached. He played all five positions for us this year, including starting five games at the point guard position. He is tremendous in just presenting a matchup problem and he really can defend all five spots on the floor."
"Victor Akinyanju was a big, strong, physical post presence, both offensively and defensively. He has an outstanding feel for the game and is one of the best individual and team defenders I've seen."
Akinyanju is Cecil's career record-holder in games played, blocks and rebounds. Lewit feels all four of these players will have an immediate impact.
"I think they're going to have to be at Quinnipiac and Campbell," Lewit said. "Those guys have to be good for those programs to be successful. I think Craig going to Texas, Texas is going to be a top ten program with our without Craig Winder. But I still think he can give them added depth in backcourt and maybe help get them to the Final Four."
Cecil went 31-and-3 this season and qualified for the NJCAA Division II national tournament.
