Chipola Update

Chipola Junior College of Marianna, Fla., should be one of the deeper programs in the rugged Panhandle Conference this winter.
Chris Jans, who took over the reins of the Indian program after two successful seasons at Howard College in Texas, is especially deep at the wing slot this year.

Je'Kel Foster, a 6-3 shooting guard, and 6-2 wing Mario Jointer form a deadly outside shooting duo for Chipola.
Foster, a native of Natchez, Miss., is a strong 205 pounder who can stroke the three and defend. According to Coach Jans, Arkansas-Little Rock, Central Florida, North Texas, Evansville, Southeast Louisiana and Montana State have expressed the most early interest in Foster. Foster will sign late.
As for Jointer, he is already bound for South Alabama. He is expected to sign a national letter of intent with the Jaguars next month.
Point guard Deke Thompson, who sat out this past weekend at a jamboree in Georgia, has seen two colleges express heavy interest this fall.
Jans said that Oral Roberts and Baylor like the 5-11 Thompson, who is expected to be ready for the start of the Indians' season in November.
Power forward Vas'shun Newborne, a 6-6, 220 pound power forward from Natchez, Miss., is also receiving Division I recruiting looks.
Jans said that Creighton, Youngstown State, Southeast Louisiana and Montana State are going to recruit Newborne this winter. Like Thompson and Foster, Newborne is expected to make a late decision.
A few days ago, JUCO Junction profiled a pair of other Chipola sophomores, Shawn Malloy and Leon Woodstock, in a separate profile.
