Cochise prospect commits, others looking

Cochise College is looking to improve on a very solid season from last year and make that next step to Hutchinson, KS for the National Tournament. The Apaches finished 3rd in Region 1 last year at 20-12 behind Arizona Western and Eastern Arizona. JucoJunction caught up with head coach Jerry Carrillo today on his sophomore class at Cochise.
Steve White: (SO) 6-foot-7 (200) from Milwaukee, WI. White just returned from St. Francis University in New York City this past weekend. Steve, while on his visit, committed to St Francis. White transferred in from Olney Central College (IL) where he averaged 14.4 ppg and 9 rebounds last season for the Blue Knights.

"St. Francis has really done a great job on recruiting Steve and really has shown Steve great trust. Steve played this past summer at Jerry Mullens 120 JUCO Camp in Tulsa," said Carrillo.
The 4 man hails from South Division High School in Milwaukee.
Thomas Shumpert: (SO) 5-foot-11 (205) from Milwaukee, WI. Shumpert is a former high school teammate of White in Milwaukee. Shumpert also traveled west this past summer after playing at Kennedy-King College in Chicago last season. Shumpert averaged 9.1 ppg and 3.4 assists while playing the point guard position for the Statesmen last year. Boise State and George Mason have expressed some interest in the strong point guard this fall.
"Thomas is a true point guard and he can really run a team," said Carrillo.
Dynile Forbes: (SO) 6-foot-1 (180) from the Bahamas. Forbes put up 19.1 ppg and 3.4 rebounds last season while hitting on 38% (70-184) from three-point range. The
shooting guard has already been offered by the University of Idaho. Drake, Virginia Commonwealth, Boise State and Louisiana-Monroe have shown interest in the 2nd team
All-Region performer.
"Dynile has had a great fall and looks good in workouts. Dynile is very explosive and shows great athleticism and speed on the floor," said Carrillo.
Schuyler Witt, (SO) 6-foot-6 (225), Mike Helton (SO) 6-foot-6 wing player, and Mike Martin, (SO) 6-foot-5 round out the sophomore class at Cochise College this year. Witt averaged 3.6 ppg and 3.7 rebounds last season playing the 4/5 spot on the floor. Helton
played at Cochise back in the 2005-2006. He sat out last season for family reasons. Martin is a transfer from Saddleback College (CA) where he played in 2005-2006. The strong combo forward redshirted last season at Cochise.
The Apaches will be playing in the Arizona Community College Jamboree on October 6, 2007 at Scottsdale Community College.
