Cougars grab second Texas juco guard

It is being reported around Houston that San Jacinto guard Rob McKiver has given an oral commitment to the Houston Cougars. There was a TV report in Houston a couple of nights ago indicating that was the case, though the news still had not been 100% confirmed by San Jac assistant Scott Horstman as of Wednesday. Horstman said he was told about the report at breakfast on Wednesday morning and had not had a chance to speak with McIver, but did say, "U of H got in early and it sounds like they got it done."
In McIver, the Cougs will get JucoJunction's No. 26 player in the land and one of the country's better shooters.

"He's about 6-4, 200 pound off-guard," Horstman said. "He's a very good shooter, three point shooter. He is a strong guard, can get to the hole, just an all-around strong two guard."
McKiver transferred to San Jacinto from Providence where he averaged 1.8 points in 24 games as a freshman.
"They tried to make him into a point and he is definitely a two," Horstman said. "He can handle it well enough, but don't know if you want him running your team because he shoots it so well."
McKiver becomes the second juco guard from the state to commit to Houston in a month. In September, the Cougars nabbed Lee College's Marcus Malone, a transfer from DePaul.
"Marcus is a complete player," said Lee head coach Roy Champagne. "He has very deep three-point range and he takes a lot of pride in defense. He's an exceptional passer."
Both players are likely to sign in November during the early signing period.
JucoJunction will continue to follow junior college recruiting across the land. To talk about this story with other juco hoops fans, check out the JucoJunction Board or our premium forum.
