Couple of prospects to watch on Indian Hills

Indian Hills Community College received some press last month when point guard Deonte Tatum committed to Hawaii, and there are a couple of more players on head coach Lorenzo Watkins' club that could find their way into the spotlight with strong sophomore seasons.
Tatum, who pledged to UH in mid August, averaged 8.4 points, 4.8 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game in shooting 46 percent from the field (39 percent on 3-pointers) last year.

He had visited Hawaii earlier in August and after also considering Texas A&M and St. Louis and DePaul, he decided to go ahead and commit.
“He’s a very talented guard. He’s a high-major athlete, guards people, shoots it okay,” said coach Watkins. “He’s just a strong, typical Milwaukee kid. He knows how to play, gets to the basket and he’s very explosive.”
Another prospect to keep an eye on this year will be DaShawn Walker, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound combo-forward. Last year, as a freshman, Walker hit for nine points a game while shooting 49 percent from the field (46 percent from 3-point land).
“He’s a very versatile kid. If he has a smaller guy on him, he can put it on the floor and get by him. He posts up well. He’s a guy that can take you inside or outside. He’s very athletic and he can shoot it,” Watkins said.
“The biggest thing we’re working on with him is mixing it up. He likes to shoot the jump shot so we’re trying to get him to put it on the floor a little more. Because he’s a strong kid that can really rise up over guys.”
Walker is getting looks from a handful of Division I schools, including Ole Miss and DePaul.
The other big name on the Indian Hills roster is forward David Cornwell, who goes 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds.
“He’s a tough kid, strong and he rebounds the ball well,” said Watkins. “I think he’s better at the three or four because he can shoot the 3. He’s a talent.”
Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, Louisville, Auburn and Tennessee have all been inquiring about Cornwell.
