Dawson Down to Pair; Pasadena CA Update

As if Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana weren't rivals enough on the basketball court, the elite Division II programs are locking horns this spring in an effort to sign 6-9 Pasadena (CA) power forward Mark Dawson.
Pasadena Asst. Coach Gamal Smalley told JUCO Junction on Tuesday that he expects Dawson to pick between the two programs sometime this week.

Dawson took official visits to three programs this spring. He spent this past weekend (May 14-16) at Southern Indiana, and went to Cal-State Bakersfield the previous weekend (May 7-9). He visited Kentucky Wesleyan in April.
A 6-9, 225 pound power forward from Jersey City, N.J., Dawson averaged 13.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and two blocks per game for the Lancers.
Dawson is a terrific run/jump athlete with big-time rebounding and defensive instincts. He's made strides offensively in his two years at Pasadena, although his scoring is generally confined to the paint area.
Two of Dawson's teammates, guard Terrell Stovall and Thomas Scott, could both be headed for the D-I ranks.
We reported last month that Stovall signed with Weber State. Stovall was the Lancers' leading scorer in 2003-2004, averaging 16.6 points per contest. He knocked down 60
Scott, who is the son of former Laker and ex-New Jersey Nets' Head Coach Byron, averaged 12.3 points and two assists per game. The 6-4 off guard converted 39 three-pointers for Pasadena as a sophomore.
Smalley said that Sacramento State and Texas State are looking at Scott this spring.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on both Dawson and Scott until they finalize their decisions this spring. Stay tuned!
