Dawson One of Top Talents at Dallas Jamboree

One of the players we've grown to like at JUCO Junction in the past couple of years is Eric Dawson of McLennan College in Waco, Tex.
A 6-8, 215 pound sophomore combo forward from San Antonio, Tex., Dawson was clearly one of the top talents this past weekend at the Dallas JC Jamboree in Richardson, Tex.

Dawson is a highly skilled player who defines the term combo forward. He has the passing and shooting skills that suggest he could play on the wing, but he has the defensive presence and athleticism to score around the basket as a post player.
Now for the rub. Dawson is at risk academically, so it's not clear if he will graduate by the summer in order to enroll at a Division I program next fall, according to McLennan Head Coach Kevin Gill.
That hasn't stopped a littany of programs from calling Coach Gill about Dawson. Among the programs showing interest include Texas Tech, UNLV, Houston, Texas Christian, Arkansas Little Rock, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette and North Texas.
In a best case scenario, Dawson would graduate in the summer of 2004. He does have a red-shirt year to use, and Gill told us that Dawson could wind up utilizing a sit-out year in 2004-2005 if he wants to go the D-I route.
We'll keep you posted on Dawson, who is clearly one of the top available big men left on the board in the JC Class of 2004. Stay tuned!
