DeGroat: Big Wing Can Flat Out Stroke It

John DeGroat, a smooth 6-6, 215 pound small forward from Northeastern J.C. in Sterling, Colo., was one of the top rising sophomores on display at the recent Mullen JC Showcase in Tulsa, Okla.
The native of Monticello, N.Y., showed that he is a very capable jump shooter. He has a great midrange perimeter game, and is athletic enough to rebound and make plays around the basket.

Northeastern Head Coach Brian Joyce told JUCO Junction that Gonzaga, Pittsburgh and New Mexico are still the colleges showing the most interest in DeGroat. St. John's was at one of DeGroat's games in Tulsa and also appears to be highly interested in the Big Apple native.
Joyce said that DeGroat has pledged an official visit to Gonzaga this spring. There is a bit of a link between Gonzaga and NJC, because former Northeastern J.C. player Tony Skinner attended Gonzaga from 2001-2003.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on DeGroat's status, as well as that of other top prospects in the JC Class of 2004. Stay tuned.
