DeGroot Has New Suitor; Could Sign Late

Travis DeGroot, a 6-2, 200 pound point guard from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M., has taken just one official visit this spring.
JUCO Junction caught up with both DeGroot and his coach, Reggie Franklin, this past weekend at the Dallas JC Jamboree.

DeGroot has visited Georgia State (Aug. 29-31), and has been courted aggressively by Lamar.
One program which has begun to show interest in DeGroot recently is Arizona.
"I think their interest is pretty high in him," Franklin said. "We are going to send them some film of Travis from his first year here."
DeGroot played for the Broncos as a freshman in 2001-2002. He left NMMI during the first semester of school last fall amid academic integrity issues, but returned there this fall to pick play his sophomore year.
Lamar and Georgia State are the only two programs that have offered DeGroot. Arizona is in the preliminary stages of its recruitment of DeGroot.
"I am not sure what I will do," DeGroot said. "I am still weighing my options, but if the fit was right, I would sign early."
DeGroot's play was inconsistent this past weekend at the Dallas JC Jamboree. He's a terrific penetrator who can make good things happen when he gains the lane. On the downside, his shot is still a weakness of his game and his decision making left quite a bit to be desired. But his package of size and strength in a point guard's body will certainly keep schools interested this winter.
JUCO Junction will keep on top of DeGroot's situation as the fall signing period approaches. Stay tuned.
