Division II program has major talent

One of junior college hoops' hidden gems this year could be playing for Division II Monroe Community College in New York.
6-foot-6 forward Joe Mbang, a native of Cameroon, is already receiving mid- to high-major attention.

"Rhode Island is probably the top school," said head coach Jerry Burns. "Goergia, Saint Bonavenure, Charlotte, all those teams are interested. Georgia hasn't offered yet because Dennis (Felton) hasn't seen him play, but they are real interested."
Mbang was an all-Western New York Athletic Conference and all-Region III performer as a freshman.
"He's real athletic," burns said. "He has only been playing organized ball for a year and a half. He has tremendous upside and is on track to graduate."
Mbang performed well at the BallStars camp in Maryland earlier this summer and Burns expects his recruitment to heat up over the next few weeks. In addition, Monroe features 6-foot-8 Brian Addison a transfer from Rhode Island, who could return to Division One ball next season.
MCC was 31-and-5 and fell in the second round of the Division II national tournament a season ago.
