Dixon gets a center

Jamie Dixon knew he needed to add some size and skill to the center position, and when it comes to pure size, there aren't many bigger players than Rozelle Nix, who committed to Pitt after an official visit this weekend.
Nix had narrowed his college options to a final three of Pit, South Carolina and Loyola Marymount. He visited South Carolina two weeks prior to the Pitt visit.

Nix is originally from Cincinnati and is currently attending Polk Junior College as a true sophomore. At one point in his career, Nix was nearly 400 pounds, but he arrived at Polk around 385 and put in enough work to drop about 70 pounds in two years. That kind of commitment - as well as his frame of 6'10" - is what intrigued coaches like Dixon, Frank Martin, Donnie Tyndall, Chris Mack and others.
Dixon took a very active role in Nix's recruitment and visited the enormous center multiple times. Nix averaged six points and five rebounds last season in a strong junior college conference, and many observers are projecting a much better season due to his current weight and conditioning level.
At Pitt, Nix will add much needed depth to a depleted front court. By the time he arrives, Derrick Randall will have graduated, while Joseph Uchebo is playing on a shaky knee and Tyrone Haughton has yet to appear in a game. Nix will immediately be the biggest player on the roster and should provide a substantial presence around the rim. If he can get under 300 pounds and maintain his body, the skill set should be evident and he could really surprise.
Nix joins Damon Wilson as part of the 2015 class; they are the lone commitments for the moment with the early signing period just a few weeks away. Both are expected to sign early. Nix will arrive in Oakland with two years of eligibility left.
