Epperson Making Adjustment at Midland

No one has ever questioned Rodney Epperson's talent on the basketball court.
The athletic 6-8 sophomore combo forward from Midland College in Texas was one of the better freshmen in the country last year at Barton County C.C. in Kansas.

But when JUCO Junction evaluated Epperson at the Mullen/Mitchell Jamboree in October, he demonstrated poor shot selection and a propensity to freelance.
Those tendencies came to a head toward the end of the first academic semester at Midland when Chaps Head Coach Shannon Hays suspended Epperson for a pair of games. He missed tilts against Grayson County and North Lake in early December.
"Rodney needs structure and discipline," Coach Hays told JUCO Junction. "After his suspension, he came back and has had a really good second semester."
Epperson has been a key cog for Midland, which hasn't tasted defeat since January 19 against South Plains.
"He's improved his defense, but he needs to finish better around the rim," Hays said. "I think improving his physical stature in the weight room will help him in that regard."
A native of Flushing, N.Y., Epperson signed in the fall with hometown St. John's. Since his commitment, the Red Storm let go of Head Coach Mike Jarvis. St. John's is actively seeking a replacement for Jarvis.
"He's had some concerns about some of the things that have happened there," Hays said. "He's going to see who the new coach is and then weigh the situation."
JUCO Junction will stay on top of the situation, and should anything change with Epperson, we will let you know.
