Florida Friday

Today we catch you up on the conference races going on in the state of Florida as teams try to position themselves towards qualifying for the FCCAA state tournament. We also look at the top 5 sophomore off guards from the sunshine state.
Chipola is still the team to beat in the Sunshine state. The Indians escaped Tallahassee with a 70-68 win on Tuesday night, giving them a one game lead over the Eagles in the race for a Panhandle Conference Championship. Freshman DeAndre Thomas continued his impressive play for the Indians leading all scorers with 18 points. Okaloosa-Walton sits two games

back at 2-2 in the conference and is a very dangerous team, capable of beating anyone anywhere.
In Southern Conference action this week Palm Beach handed Indian River it's first Southern Conference loss of the season, moving themselves into a 3 way tie for first with IRCC and Miami Dade. FAU signee Tavarus Harris continues to play very well for the Panthers.
Daytona Beach bounced back after it's first conference loss of the season with an impressive road win at Santa Fe. The Falcons are still adjusting to life without Stanley Branch but the strong guard play of Blake Young and Demetrius Green make them one of the most talented teams in the nation. DBCC will be challenged by Santa Fe and Central Florida for the Mid-South Conference Championship, Santa Fe led by Daytona signee Andres Sandoval and CFCC led by George Mason signee Darryl Monroe.
Finally the Suncoast Conference race appears to be a two team battle between Hillsborough and St. Petersburg. Hillsborough's powerful inside tandem of Othello Hunter and Tavaris Watts will be challenged greatly by a
talented St. Petersburg squad led by Kansas State signee Kenneth Williams.
