Focus on 08: LA Southwest

Three-pointers will be flying at 1600 West Imperial Parkway this year. One,12,17 are three numbers Los Angeles Southwest Head coach Reggie Morris will have this coming season.
One: The leading scorer in the state of California among freshmen last season in Chris Smith. Twelve: Demetrius Turner and Seventeen: Eules Thompson finished there ranked, respectively, in the state in scoring last year. Coach Morris will beginning his 12th year at LA Southwest this fall.

Chris Smith: (SO) 6-foot-1 (170) Los Angeles, CA. The product of Narbonne High School led the state in scoring last season at 26.2 ppg. Chris hit 103 three-pointers for the (18-13) Cougars.
"Chris is a scorer that can really get to the basket and has deep range on his shot," said Morris.
The All State and 1st team all conference performer had five games last season of 40 points or more. Smith will be headed to Tulsa, OK this July to play at Jerry Mullens JC Camp. USC, Cal State-Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara have shown early interest in Smith.
Demetrius Turner: (SO) 6-foot-5 (205) Los Angeles, CA. Turner transferred into LA Southwest from Cerritos College. Demetrius averaged 16.4 ppg and hit 71 three-pointers last season.
"Demetrius is a long small forward who will play the wing for us this coming season," said Morris.
Turner is currently in summer school at LA Southwest and will have some company in Tulsa, OK this summer at Jerry Mullens Camp with Smith. UNLV and USC have put calls into Turner so far this summer.
Eules Thompson: (SO) 6-foot-2 (170) Los Angeles, CA. Eules is a former high school teammate of Smith at Narbonne High School.
"Eules is really going to benefit this season with Demetrius being here," Morris commented.
Thompson averaged 15.7 ppg last season for the Cougars. The all conference performer has received early interest from Montana State and Portland State.
Donte Maddox: (SO) 6-foot-0 (160) Compton, CA. Donte played at LA Southwest a few years back with Ivan Johnson and Mike Woodard. Maddox is the brother of former Fresno State player Tito Maddox.
"Speed kills," said Morris simply. "Donte has great speed and his a really aggressive defender."
Maddox took classes part time last season and will be ready to run the point guard position this season for the Cougars.
