Focus on 2009: LA City College

The Los Angeles City College Cubs are under new leadership this season with new head coach Mack Cleveland. The Cubs are very solid contender year in and year out in the California JUCO ranks. Coach Cleveland caught up with JucoJunction today to give us an update on this year's squad.
Dontrell Taylor, a (SO) 6-foot-9 (245) power forward from Wilkerson County, GA. Taylor played last season at Tennessee State University. Taylor averaged 3.1 ppg in 16 games played last season and scored 16 points versus Colorado State last November.

"Dontrell is a true low post threat with very good footwork and has great hands and mobility," said Cleveland.
East Tennessee State - will visit October 17-19, Providence, Oregon, Arkansas State, Evansville, Wyoming, South Carolina and Charlotte have contacted Taylor this fall.
Fabian Wilson, (SO) 6-foot-8 (245) power forward from Atlanta, GA, played last season at Coastal Georgia Community College in Brunswick, GA. Fabian averaged 7 ppg and 8.7 rebounds last season. Wyoming, East Tennessee State, Idaho, Providence, Oregon, Washington, Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are keeping an eye on him.
Branden Fisher, (SO) 5-foot-11 (165) from Rockford, IL, is back for his second year with the Cubs. Fisher played AAU ball with the Illinois Fire and prepped at Maine Central Institute and Genesis One Christian School in Mendenhall, MS. Fisher played this summer at Jerry Mullens JUCO 120 Camp in Tulsa, OK.
"Branden is a talented point guard who can pass and score and run a team. He is very quick and crafty with the ball," said Cleveland.
Illinois-Chicago, Fresno State, Missouri State and UAB have contacted Fisher this school year according to Cleveland.
Clarence Davis, (FR) 6-foot-1 (175) from Nashville, TN, sat out last season at Alabama A&M. Davis can leave after one year at LA City and have three years to play.
"CJ is an excellent point guard and shooter," said Cleveland.
East Tennessee State - will visit on October 17-19, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Maine, Washington State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi have contacted Davis this fall.
Cordaryll Desmond, a (SO) 6-foot-6 (200) post player, hails from Bessemer, AL. Desmond played at Bevill State-Fayette prior to coming to LA City.
"Cordaryll is a athletic combo forward that can defend three positions as well as score and rebound," said Cleveland.
Cal State-Bakersfield, Utah Valley State and Florida Atlantic have shown interest in Desmond.
The Cubs have brought in some talented freshmen in Antonio Owens, (FR) 6- foot-3 (205), Deshawn Stevens, (FR) 6-foot-9 (210), and Ricky Calvin, (FR) 6-foot-8 (220). All three of these players should see plenty of playing time this season for the Cubs.
