Fontenet Putting Up Numbers at Scottsdale

James Fontenet, a 6-2, 180 pound shooting/combo guard from Scottsdale C.C. in Scottsdale, Ariz., has generated lots of low to mid-major recruiting interest this winter.
Fontenet transferred into Scottsdale from New Mexico State. He and his twin brother Jason starred at St. Mary's H.S. in Phoenix prior to signing with the Aggies. Jason has since transferred to Oregon State, and James is looking to get back to the Division I level next fall.

When JUCO Junction watched James Fontenet at the ACCAC Jamboree in October, we were impressed with his scoring and shooting skills. We thought of him as more of a two in a one's body.
"We want him to be a combo guard," Scottsdale Head Coach Paul Eberhardt explained. "He's logging more minutes at the two, but he could be a back-up one."
Part of Fontenet's hybrid nature is due to the fact that he grew accustomed to playing with his twin brother in the backcourt.
"He's always been with his brother, and his brother has been the point guard," Eberhardt said. "James has an uncanny ability to make tough shots."
Fontenet averages 16.1 points per game, and is knocking down an average of two treys per game.
That kind of scoring prowess has generated serious looks from Cal-Irvine, Eastern Washington, Pacific and San Jose State. Eberhardt said that those programs have been in to look at Fontenet and have establised themselves as the early leaders in the process.
Others expressing interest include Western Illinois, Purdue and Southern Utah.
JUCO Junction will keep tabs on Fontenet's season and recruitment as the signing period approaches.
