Fresno guards looking at options

Vance Wallberg left Fresno City College a year ago to be the Head Coach at Pepperdine University. Ed Madec comes in from The College of the Siskiyous in Weed, CA to run the Rams of Fresno City CC. Madec led the Rams to a State Championship this past season and posted a 32-8 record. Coach Madec caught up with JucoJunction today about a few of his players on this very young basketball team.
Mike Marcial: (FR) 6-foot-0 (180) from Clovis, CA. Marcial took 2 years off before playing basketball this season at FCCC.

"Mike is a power point guard with a very high character. He's the best point guard in the state," said Madec. "Mike is a proven winner on and off the floor. He was the MVP of both the State Tourney and the Central Valley Conference this past season."
Marcial could leave after this season and have three years to play at the next level. Mike averaged 6.8 ppg and 6.4 assists this season for the Rams. Southern Utah was showing interest until the recent coaching change.
Jonathon Hewitt: (SO) 6-foot-0 (180) from Fresno, CA. The undersized two guard really likes to shoot the ball. Jonathan shot 46.5% (244-525) from the floor this season while averaging 16.9 ppg.
"He is the most talented kid on our team," said Madec.
Hewitt scored 926 career points in 76 games played at FCCC the past two seasons. Jonathan's season high was a 36-point outing in the first round of the playoffs. Idaho State and Cameron (OK) have made inquiries about Hewitt this spring.
Phil Matchum: (SO) 5-foot-11 (165) from Clovis, CA. Matchum is an undersized two guard like Hewitt.
"Phil is a big-time shooter" said Madec.
The All-State performer made 151 three-pointers this season, nearly four per game. Matchum shot 42.7% (151-354) from three-point range and averaged 12.7 ppg. Phil made 255 three pointers in two years for the Rams. Matchum scored 831 points at Fresno City. He is totally wide open in the recruiting process.
