Globe Tech Update

Globe Technical Institute in New York City just started school this week, but Ken Wilcox's Knights scored a big victory this summer by landing 6-8 power forward Jamal Nichols of Philadelphia, Penn.
Nichols starred last winter at Riverside C.C. in Riverside, Calif., where he averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game for the Tigers. Nichols began his college career as a red-shirt freshman at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia in 2001-2002.

Globe Asst. Coach James Ross confirmed that Nichols is expected to enroll for fall classes at the school within the next few days.
Ross also gave us a run down of some of the players he expects to help Globe get back in the mix for the Region 15 crown.
A key returnee off last year's squad is 6-8, 200 pound combo forward Jason Holyfield of Connecticut. Another veteran soph, 6-0 point guard Shamel Good, is expected to once again provide leadership for the Knights this winter.
Key newcomers include:
*Shaheem McNair, a 6-2 combo guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., who last played two years ago at Kilgore College in Texas. McNair sat out last winter at Globe. He originally signed with Duquesne out of high school.
*Roscoe Biggers, a vocal 5-11 point guard from New York City, will be a redshirt freshman at Globe this winter after sitting out last year as a non-qualifier at Seton Hall. If Biggers takes care of business in the classroom at Globe, he could have three years of eligibility left on the D-I level following the 2003-2004 junior college basketball season.
*Two other red-shirt freshmen players are expected to help out this winter in the Globe frontcourt. Randy Mormene, a 6-8, 225 pound power forward from Philadelphia, Penn., is tabbed by Coach Ross as one of the program's top newcomers. Mormene sat out last year at Philadelphia C.C. One player returning to the Big Apple after sitting out last year at Howard J.C. in Texas is 6-8, 230 pound center Shakiem Mitchell of Brooklyn, N.Y. If Mitchell and Mormene can take care of business in the classroom, Ross said it's conceivable that each could leave Globe Tech with three years to play on the D-I level.
*Nigel Bullen, a 6-3 wing from Brooklyn, N.Y., is expected to provide backcourt depth for Globe in 2003-2004. Bullen played at Skyline College in California last winter before opting to return to the Big Apple.
*Darren Apels, a rugged 6-8, 230 pound power forward/center from Montreal, Quebec, returns to Globe after a long hiatus. He played for Globe several years back, and as a result, an NCAA clock issue will force him to go the D-II/NAIA route.
JUCO Junction hopes to catch Globe in early season action this fall, so keep it here for the top coverage of JC basketball recruiting on the internet.
