Gonner Wrapping Up Last Official Trip

The recruiting battle for 6-2 Hutchinson C.C. shooting guard Josh Gonner is nearing an end, according to Blue Dragons Asst. Coach Eric Duft.
JUCO Junction caught up with Coach Duft this past weekend at the Charlie Weber DC Captiol Hoops Tournament, and he informed us that Gonner was taking his final official visit to South Carolina from Apr. 26-28.

Previously, Gonner visited Southeast Missouri State (Apr. 11-13), where his older brother Dainmon goes to school, and East Carolina (Apr. 18-20).
Back in the fall, he visited Wisconsin-Milwaukee, but the Panthers appear not to be a factor in Gonner's recruitment at this juncture. UW-M signed Paris (TX) J.C. guard Ed McCants during the early signing period.
As JUCO Junction reported exclusively last month, Illinois made a late pitch for Gonner due to the uncertain academic status of Illini fall recruit Richard McBride.
Coach Duft said that Gonner was slated to visit Illinois from May 2-4, but the visit was scrapped once Bill Self left the Illini for Kansas earlier this month. He still has one more visit left should he opt to use it this spring before signing.
Gonner averaged 18.5 points and 2.6 steals per game for the Blue Dragons in 2002-2003. The Fort Worth, Tex., native is cat quick and can score points in bunches. He's never afraid to take a big shot, and he was one of the top players this past winter in a strong Jayhawk West Conference.
Something could break soon with Gonner, and JUCO Junction will keep you abreast when a decision is reached.
