Graduation Issues for Orr; GA Perimeter Update

Randy Orr, a 6-10 power forward from Georgia Perimeter College in Decatur, Ga., isn't expected to transfer to a four-year college following the 2003-2004 campaign.
JUCO Junction caught up with GPC Asst. Coach David Dennis recently, and he told us that Orr will likely explore professional options following his sophomore season for the Jaguars.

"Randy isn't going to graduate, and he is trying to get to the next level, whether it's Europe, the D-League or the NBA," Dennis said. "He's not real big on school, so we are trying to put him in a situation where people can see him."
Scouts from the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies have already contacted Dennis regarding Orr.
Two other Jaguar sophomores are looking to latch on with four-year schools after the 2003-2004 campaign. Here's an early look at the recruitments of 6-2 shooting guard Roderick Trice and 6-8 power forward Jamahl Stokes.
Dennis said that Georgia, South Carolina, South Alabama, Oregon, New Mexico State, Clemson and the College of Charleston have inquired early about Trice. Trice is a quick and athletic guard with a penchant for scoring.
Trice, who is expected to graduate on time, will make a late decision.
As for Stokes, the Okaloosa-Walton transfer is a bit behind the eight ball academically. In fact, it could be tough for him to get his degree by the end of next summer.
Dennis said that South Alabama tops Stokes' list this fall. That comes as little surprise, since former O-W Asst. Coach Isaac Brown is now on staff at USA.
Others who have shown preliminary interest include Georgia State, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson, New Mexico State and Southern Illinois.
SEC programs like South Carolina will only be able to recruit Stokes if he returns to Georgia Perimeter next fall for another full-time semester. An SEC rule stipulates that a JUCO transfer must spend at least three consecutive full-time semesters at a junior college before transferring into a league member.
Two players off last year's squad --6-8 power forward Lawrence Pruitt and 6-7 combo forward Adrian Robinson -- are enrolled at GPC part time. Dennis expects both to graduate in the spring. Robinson needs to boost his GPA in order to meet Division I transfer requirements.
