Hilltoppers get their man

It was just what he needed to make sure he had the right choice.
When Cerritos C.C. (Calif.) point guard Ken Brown spoke to InsideHilltopperSports.com last week, he was nearly a hundred percent set on his next destination. This past weekend, he made sure of it on an official visit. Monday afternoon, he said he's made his mind up, giving his verbal commitment to WKU.

The earliest Brown can sign is April 14, the opening day of the spring signing period, which he said he intends to do.
"My visit was perfect," Brown said. "The school and everything is perfect. Everything is what I'm lookin' for. Only thing left to do is try to get some horses to run with me when the season starts. What I saw was the equipment and how they had everything planned out on how they're gonna improve my game."
Brown had been in contact with assistant coach Ray Harper for some time now, but this weekend gave Brown a chance to connect with the rest of the staff. Also included in that group was president Gary Ransdell.
"Everybody was fine and I even got to meet the president and everything," Brown said. "Everybody wanted me to come, it wasn't just the coaches. Staff, students, everybody, the whole nine was looking forward to me going."
Brown also got to know the current Toppers and get a feel for how he would fit in.
"They really know that what hey really need is a point guard," Brown said. "They're comfortable with me being their point guard. After we played pick-up, they were fine."
There was another JUCO visitor in town as well on an official visit in Blinn C.C. (TX) shooting guard Kahlil McDonald. Brown said the two hit it off and have discussed the possibility of playing together.
"We stayed in the same hotel, but when I had first met him, we weren't vibin' or anything until after we had started scrimmaging and playing," Brown said. "After that was when we started bonding, because we saw where we were. He enjoyed playing with me and I enjoyed playing with and against him. We decided we could be the best backcourt, be one of the top backcourts in the country. WKU feels like if we both come, we'll turn the program around big time."
Brown said he hopes he's exactly the missing ingredient for WKU in getting the Toppers back to the post-season. He describes himself as a true point guard who likes to run the floor.
"They're not used to having a guard that can just get out and run," Brown said. "I can tell, because they were running up the court with their backs turned. They're used to walking the ball up, so that's how they wanna play with the running game, but they've gotta get back used to it."
