Holmes Signs with South Florida

Late last week, JUCO Junction reported that shooting guard James Holmes of Schoolcraft College in Michigan would be visiting the University of South Florida.
So it came as little surprise this week when Schoolcraft College Head Coach Carlos Briggs informed us that Holmes had signed with the Bulls.

Holmes, who will have three years of eligibility at USF, signed on Monday with the Bulls. New Bulls Head Coach Robert McCullum is hoping that deja vu happens all over again with Holmes.
Last spring, he inked Schoolcraft forward Mike Williams, who was one of the better players in the Mid-American Conference this past season. Williams averaged 13.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this past winter for the Broncos.
In Holmes, USF has added a pure scoring guard who is effective as both a slasher and shooter. This past season as a freshman at Schoolcraft, Holmes averaged 14.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
He was the Ocelots' third leading scorer on a team that finished 31-4 in 2002-2003. Holmes shot 53 percent from the floor and 41 percent beyond the arc.
Initially, it was thought that Holmes would need to spend two years at Schoolcraft before moving on to the Division I ranks. However, earlier this spring, Schoolcraft Head Coach Carlos Briggs informed JUCO Junction that Holmes might be able to leave the junior college after his freshman season.
A few weeks ago, the NCAA Clearinghouse determined that Holmes was a qualifier out of high school in Detroit. He visited Central Michigan and South Florida before opting to sign with the Conference USA Bulls.
