Hutchs Pettway Playing Waiting Game

While many Division I programs have feverishly tried to sway Hutchinson (KS) center Aaron Pettway, the 6-10 center has been quite methodical in his handling of the recruiting process this spring.
In fact, since the end of the Blue Dragons' season in early March, Pettway has taken just one official visit.

According to Hutch Asst. Coach Eric Duft, Pettway visited Oklahoma State from Apr. 9-11.
"Aaron doesn't say a whole lot," Duft told JUCO Junction. "But he really liked it there."
Right now, Pettway's recruitment appears to be down to four programs. In addition to Oklahoma State, he's actively considering Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Alabama.
Pettway visited Mississippi State and Georgetown back in the fall, but the Hoyas' coaching change has knocked them out of the box. He unofficially visited Alabama over the Christmas break (Pettway is a native of Mobile, Ala.).
So what's next for Pettway? The only school he hasn't seen yet is Georgia Tech.
"Aaron is waiting to see what's going to happen with Randolph Morris," Duft said. "Georgia Tech has been very up front and told us that Morris is their number one guy."
Morris, one of the top ranked high school seniors in the country, has the Yellow Jackets on his short list of college programs and could decide shortly.
If Morris commits to Tech, it could push Pettway elsewhere. However, if Morris goes somewhere else, Georgia Tech would be an even palatable option for Pettway.
Pettway averaged 7.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game in 2003-2004, shooting 47 percent from the field and 65 percent from the foul line.
As his numbers would suggest, Pettway is rough around the edges offensively. He's long, mobile and athletic for a big man, so he could be an impact player from a defensive standpoint next winter at the Division I level.
We'll keep you posted on Pettway's situation as he nears a decision this spring. Stay tuned!
