In Focus: College of Coastal Georgia

College of Coastal Georgia has a new name this year and pretty much a whole new team and attitude. The Mariners were (8-22) last season when they were known as Coastal Georgia Community College and look to improve on last season. Head coach Gerald Cox is entering his 26th year at the helm of the Brunswick, GA school. JucoJunction recently stopped in for a practice at College of Coastal Georgia and and we also saw the Mariners in Tallahassee, FL this past weekend at the Southeastern Jamboree.
John Strickland, (SO) 6-foot-6 (255) from Plainfield, NJ, is a power forward that was an academic qualifier coming out of high school. John is more of a half court style player that can draw contact in the paint by moving opponents around. John really lays within his own style of play. Eastern Illinois, Mercer, Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State have called on Strickland this fall according to assistant coach James Frey. Strickland hit the nets for 8.2 ppg and 8.3 rebounds a night last year.

Martez Howard, (SO) 6-foot-4 (190) from College Park, GA, is an off guard that transferred in from Carl Albert State College in Poteau, OK. Martez has a good motor and he can knock down open shots on the floor. Howard averaged 9.2 ppg last season and shot 46.8% (74-158) from the floor.
Jacqueis Wilson, (SO) 6-foot-5 (238) from Waycross, GA, is a combo forward that played his freshman season at USC-Salkehatchie in Walterboro, SC. Wilson a 4/3 type is a undersized post that averaged 10.4 ppg and 6.2 rebounds last season while shooting 56.4 % (119-211) from the floor.
Antonio Tribble, (FR) 5-foot-11 (150) from Newberry, SC, has a great motor and a knack to get to the rim at ease. Tribble prepped last season at Laurinburg Institute for head coach Derrick Bond. Antonio is a scoring guard that prefers to have the ball in his hands. The left-handed Tribble played AAU ball with Topps Sports based out of Columbia,SC.
Kiara Douglas, (FR) 6-foot-7 (192) from Darlington, SC, is another player from the Palmetto state on the roster for the Mariners this season. Douglas, a combo forward, is for sure a run-jump-athlete type player. Kiara signed with South Carolina State out of high school and played AAU ball with Grand Strands Finest. Douglas is a great athlete that is just learning on how to play the game at the next level.
The Mariners look to improve on last season's woes. JucoJunction will follow the Mariners progress this season right here.
