In Focus: South Suburban College

The South Suburban College Bulldogs are entering year number three in the John Pigetti era as head coach. Pigatti is (57-15) in his first two seasons at the South Holland, IL school. JucoJunction had a chance to see the Bulldogs this past Monday at the Illinois Valley Community College Jamboree.
Nick Carey, (SO) 5-foot-9 (165) from Baton Rouge, LA, was an academic qualifier coming out of high school in Louisiana. Nick, originally from Slidell, LA, moved on over to McKinley High School in Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina.

"Nick is a very solid point guard and I think some schools get caught up in his size. Nick knows what to expect in our offense and I really like the way he runs the team on the floor," said Pigatti.
Lamar University and Arkansas-Little Rock have made contact with Carey this fall according to Pigatti.
Tremell Adams, (SO) 6-foot-2 (196) from Chicago, IL, is an off guard from Chicago Curie High School. He averaged 8 ppg last season for the Bulldogs. Tremell was also an academic qualifier coming out of the Chicago Public League. Tremell plays with a great deal of confidence from the shooting guard position.
"He is the best shooter I have coached in all the levels I have been at," said Pigatti.
Pigatti has coached at Creighton, Texas A&M, Akron, Kent State and at Chicago State. Adams will be the captain of the Bulldogs this coming season.
Bradley Birton, (SO) 6-foot-6 (195) from Chicago, IL is a combo forward and more of a 4/3 type who can knock down the midrange jumper. Bradley is receiving interest from Eastern Illinois and Kent State according to Pigatti. Birton averaged 8 ppg and 6 rebounds last season for the Bulldogs.
Jarrell Turner, (SO) 6-foot-2 (180), and Jamie Canty, (SO) 7-foot-0 (282), both transferred in this season to South Suburban. Turner played at nearby Triton College last season. Turner is an athletic slasher that averaged double digits last season at the River Grove, IL school. Canty played in just 6 games last season at Kankakee Community College. Canty is still trying to get a medical redshirt from last season.
The Bulldogs will play an independent schedule this season and are trying to make a third straight trip to the NJCAA National Tourney in Danville, IL this coming season. JucoJunction will keep you posted on how the Bulldogs do this season.
