Kansas, Kentucky and Iowa State all had offered the guard from Gary, IN a scholarship for next season. Tyrone is currently averaging 12.3 ppg and 5.2 assists on the season for the (27-3) Chaps. The Chaps won the NJCAA Division One title last season in Hutchinson, KS. JucoJunction has Appleton rated the #3 juco player in the country.
"Tyrone and his legal guardian James Dye thought KU was the place for him next season. He felt really comfortable with coach Self and his staff and really liked what KU had to offer him for next season," said McCasland.
Appleton prepped at Bridgton Academy and Harmony Community School coming out of high school. Appleton signed with Virginia Tech coming out of prep school but failed to qualify academically.
