Kennedy-King with more Division One talent

Earlier this week, JucoJunction passed along the news that Kennedy-King forward Lorenzo Eckford had committed to the University of Idaho. But Eckford is not alone at the Chicago school. One of the more watched prospects in the area will be Kennedy-King point guard Greg Charles.
Charles sat out a season ago, but is drawing some definite D1 interest.

"We believe he's a D1 player, there's a lot of D1 interest about him. He's 6-3, very similar to kid went to Maryland, Parrish Brown," said head coach Garland Dildy. "He's very quick with the ball, reminds you of a Ricky Green with the ball. He can scooter down the court, get to the basket, needs to work a little on his outside shooting."
UTEP, Long Beach State, Illinois State, Loyola and Chicago State are some of the teams showing the most interest so far. Dildy says he expects the interest to pick up after his team plays in a couple of more jamborees, including an event at Southern Indiana.
Dildy will also field a few transfers who should help his team. Calvin Gray will come over from Kankakee and Ed Finner sat out a season ago.
"We're young, our strength is our youth, have a very good freshman class and we expecting big things from our freshmen," Dildy said. "We have a good mixture of youth, athleticism, and experienced transfers. The downside is it takes them a while to get used to playing together, mesh into new roles, it takes freshmen a minute to adjust from high school ball to junior college ball. We expect to be a lot better at the end of the season than the beginning."
With Kankakee, Illinois Valley and Highland, it won't be easy sailing in Region IV. But Kennedy-King has the talent to make things interesting.
JucoJunction will continue to follow junior college recruiting across the land. To talk about this story with other juco hoops fans, check out the JucoJunction Board or our premium forum.
