Konkol gets first 2

Since the arrival of Eric Konkol in Ruston, he has had the task of re-recruiting former Louisiana Tech signees Justin Leon and Derric Jean. So far, neither have made a final decision and have some high-majors on their trail. This past weekend, Konkol and his staff hosted two prospects on campus and received commitments from both.
Jy'lan Washington a 6-foot-7 small forward from Smyrna Stewarts Creek (TN) will sign a letter of intent today and 6-foot-4 shooting guard DaShawn Robinson from Navarro Junior College (TX) signed financial aid papers while on campus this weekend.

"I am excited to welcome Da'Shawn Robinson and Jy'lan Washington to our Louisiana Tech family," Konkol said in a press release from Tech. "They are both terrific people who will excel in our aggressive, up-tempo style and be wonderful members of the Ruston community."
Robinson improved his 3-point shooting from his freshman to sophomore season significantly. He saw his 3-point percentage go from 28% as a freshman to 44% as a sophomore.
"The improvement was mainly because of confidence, Robinson told BleedTechBlue.com. "I felt like every time I shot it was going tin and also my coaches and teammates. If I was to miss one or more they had the confidence in me to keep shooting and make the next one."
Since May 1, Robinson has been committed to Albany of the American East Conference but decided Tech was the place for him this weekend. A trip was also scheduled to Cal State Bakersfield for June 9 but that trip has now been cancelled.
"I loved how [Ruston] was such a college town but mostly how much of a family the coaches were to each other. It really felt like home and wanted to be a part of the program."
Washington had offers from Middle Tennessee and Coastal Carolina before committing to Tech this past weekend.
"Coach Konkol is a good coach and I just wanted to be a part of the journey," Washington said.
It is unknown what Konkol's offense and defense will look like exactly, but Washington has the ability to put the ball on the floor and drive, alter shots and shoot. His length and athleticism will be an asset. Last season, Tech struggled to find a consistent threat from behind the arc. Getting someone like Robinson who can shoot the three with consistency is big.
"Da'Shawn is a mature, athletic guard who attacks the rim and shoots a terrific percentage from behind the three-point line," Konkol said. "He has a very strong frame and has the ability to be an excellent defender. We can't wait to get to work with him. Jy'lan is an extremely versatile player with terrific length and athleticism," Konkol said. "He can slash to the basket and finish above the rim as well as hit three-point shots. He has great timing defensively and we will count on him for deflections and shot blocking. His best basketball is ahead of him and we look forward to getting to work with him."
After the addition of Robinson and Washington, Tech still has two scholarships available. It is unknown how those will be used and could of course still be used by Leon or Jean. If those two decided to go elsewhere Tech could take a couple of transfers or hold on to them for 2016.
