Malloy Headed to Sun Belt; Third JC Cager for UNO

Shawn Malloy, a finesse 6-9 power forward from Chipola J.C. in Marianna, Fla., committed to New Orleans on Tuesday.
Chipola Head Coach Chris Jans informed JUCO Junction on Wednesday of Malloy's commitment. Last month, we reported that Malloy would be taking an official visit to New Orleans.

Malloy's relationship with the Privateers dates back to his high school days in North Carolina. He signed with UNO as a high school senior, but failed to qualify academically and headed off to Butler County C.C. in El Dorado, Kan.
Malloy spent the 2002-2003 school year at Butler and transferred to Chipola for the 2003-2004 campaign.
"Shawn had a comfort level with Coach Towe," Jans explained. "They signed him out of high school, and a year and a half later, he still feels the same way about them."
While Malloy's frame has filled out to around 230 pounds in the past year, he's not an overly physical or aggressive player. He can be effective at the high post and he moves quite well for a 6-9 player.
"A year or two from now, he could be a very productive Division I player," Jans said. "He just needs time and playing experience."
Malloy should be one of the Indians' core players this winter. Jans has a deep bench at Chipola, so the minutes will be there if he continues to work hard and produce.
"He's a great kid with a good work ethic," Jans said. "There's no reason he won't continue to get better."
Earlier this week, New Orleans landed 6-1 point guard Todd Bostic of Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz., and 6-9 center Jose Nava of Hill College in Hillsboro, Tex.
Malloy will have two years of eligibility remaining at New Orleans.
