Matheus Signs with Utah State

Cassiano Matheus, a 6-10, 240 pound sophomore center from South Plains College in Levelland, Tex., has signed a national letter of intent with Utah State.
JUCO Junction caught up with South Plains Head Coach Steve Green on Tuesday night, and he confirmed that Matheus will play in the Big West Conference next winter.

"He's going back to a school that originally recruited him," Green said. "For Cassiano, they presented a need, because they don't have a guy that size in their program."
Late last week, JUCO Junction reported that Matheus would likely sign with the Aggies after speaking with South Plains Asst. Coach Josh Newman.
In addition to visiting Georgia last fall, Matheus also visited Utah State. He averaged 8.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot 58 percent from the floor in 2002-2003 for the Texans.
Matheus and teammate Marcus Jackson were released from their letters of intent by Georgia last week. The Bulldogs fired Head Coach Jim Harrick earlier this spring following allegations surrounding the Georgia basketball program.
