McCombs close to ASU commitment

Dwight McCombs visited his first high major program for an official stay over the weekend and said he came away impressed enough that he is considering a commitment.
McCombs, a 6-foot-8, 235 pound post player at Morain Valley Community College in Illinois, tripped to Arizona State along with good friend and Sun Devil commit Brandon Dunson, a fellow junior college player from Illinois.

"I'm going to sit down and talk to my coach and my father," McCombs said. "If I commit (to ASU) it'll either be Tuesday or Wednesday and if not I'll visit Auburn or Indiana next weekend and then make my decision after that."
McCombs and Dunson were hosted by Ty Abbott and Jamelle McMillan.
"Me and the players, we kicked it and had a good time together," McCombs said. "It was great weather, the place was beautiful. It was a great place. Even if not to play basketball there it's a really nice living environment period.
"They had great facilities. Some of the best that I've seen as far as college campuses. They did a good job out there."
Arizona State coaches have told McCombs they are interested in using him as a true power forward at times alongside of a center on the court, and he's intrigued by the idea.
"They said they see me as a Jeff Pendergraph type of player," McCombs said. "I'm a type of guy they don't really have on the team right now. They like the way I play the position and how I'd fit in that program."
Last season at Moraine Valley, McCombs averaged 22.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 5.1 blocks en route to all-conference and all-region first-team honors. He finished first in blocked shots at the NJCAA Division II level, third in rebounding and 11th in scoring.
