McLennan TX Program Focus

McLennan C.C. of Waco, Tex., enjoyed a 25-5 campaign in 2003-2004. Had it not been for league rival Collin County's magical 27-2 ledger, the Highlanders might have grabbed more national headlines.
McLennan finished 11-3 in North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play, and averaged 93 points per game this season.

The key cogs in the perimeter attack, combo guard Jesse Kimbrough and swingman Andre Owens, recently made college decisions.
As JUCO Junction reported a few days back, Kimbrough has signed with Jacksonville University in Texas.
A native of Mexia, Tex., Kimbrough averaged 14.3 points and 6.8 assists per game.
Owens, a strong and athletic 198 pounder from Irving, Tex., signed with Texas-San Antonio.
McLennan Head Coach Kevin Gill told JUCO Junction that Owens took official visits to UT-SA (Apr. 16-18) and Texas State (Apr. 9-11) before casting his lot with the Roadrunners.
Owens averaged 15.8 points per game for the Highlanders this season. He's an energy guy who does his most effective work going to the hole.
"He can get to the basket anytime he wants," Gill said. "He's left handed, has a nice midrange jumper and is a great finisher."
McLennan's most coveted prospect, explosive 6-8, 220 pound power forward Eric Dawson, could wind up going the Division II/NAIA route.
Gill said that Dawson took an unofficial visit to Tarleton State on Apr. 20. He's also paid unofficial visits to Division I Prairie View A&M and NAIA Texas Wesleyan.
"Eric is not going to graduate, so if he wants to go D-I, he will have to sit out a year," Gill explained. "His GPA and number of hours will determine whether he can go Division II or not."
A native of San Antonio, Tex., Dawson averaged 13.3 points and 11 rebounds per game for McLennan in 2003-2004. He's also a potent shotblocker on the defensive end.
Academics will dictate that 6-0 sophomore combo guard Allen Houston of Baton Rouge, La., attend a Division II program in the fall.
Gill said that D-II St. Mary's in San Antonio, Tex., is involved with Houston, who averaged 5.1 assists per game as a soph.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on the McLennan availables until they finalize their decisions this spring. Stay tuned.
