Monroe College Mustangs

The Monroe College Mustangs didn't have far to travel to get to Rick Ball's JUCO Jamboree at Mount St Vincents College this past weekend in the Bronx, N.Y. The Mustangs are looking to try to get back to the NJCAA National Tourney in Hutchinson, K.S. after finishing 30-8 under head coach Jeff Brustad last season. Kevin Powell really played well by shooting the ball from 3-point range. The small forward transferred into Monroe College from Chipola College in Florida. Powell is a Fayetteville, N.C. native.

"Kevin played really confident from the perimeter today and shows that he can knockdown the the midrange jumper and shoot the ball off the bounce," said JucoJunction Publisher Bret Swanson.
Paul Scotland is a returner from last seasons team. The undersized off guard hails from Manhattan, N.Y. where he played high school ball at Urban Peace and then prepped at Eldon Academy in Michigan. Scotland averaged 12.3 points, 4.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game last season.
Ronald Baker played his ball in the Jayhawk Conference last season at Barton Community College. The combo guard is a hometown product of the Bronx where he played at Wings Academy. Baker averaged 9.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3 assists per game for the Cougars.
Jeff Early played in the NJCAA National Tourney a few seasons back at Allegany College in Maryland. The transfer sat out last season for the Mustangs is a glue guy who can play a few different positions on the floor.
Early averaged 15 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent (213-393) for Allegany College as a freshman. Early hails from Roanoke, V.A.
The Mustangs were without Sean Berry, Tyrone Lindsay and freshman Anthony Banks this past weekend. The Mustangs will look to try to make it back to Hutchinson, K.S. this March and stay here with JucoJunction to find out how they do in their quest for a NJCAA National Championship.
