Montgomery Signs; Angelina Update

One of the better pure scorers left on the board this spring, Angelina's 6-4, 195 pound swingman J.J. Montgomery, has signed a national letter of intent with Arkansas State.
JUCO Junction confirmed this signing on Thursday with Angelina Head Coach Guy Davis.

Montgomery took spring trips to Lamar (Apr. 11-13) and Arkansas State (March 28-30) before casting his lot with the Indians.
Montgomery could be an impact offensive player next winter in the Sun Belt Conference. Simply put, he can put the ball in the basket.
"He can play without the basketball," Davis said. "He moves and gets open. He's not a shooter but he knows how to score."
"J.J. is good at crashing the boards and getting to the free throw line," Davis continued. "He's more of a slasher/driver than a shooter."
Montgomery started out in junior college three years ago at San Jacinto, but spent just half a year there before returning to his hometown of Lufkin and Angelina. Davis said he'll need three hours of math in the summer to graduate from Angelina.
Two other Roadrunner players, Jason Wilkins and Derrick Hill, are also making spring decisions.
Wilkins, a 6-6, 215 pound small/combo forward, has signed with Nicholls State. He is a native of Evadale, Tex., and was an academic qualifier out of high school.
Hill, a 6-8, 220 pound run/jump athlete from Austin, Tex., will need to go the Division II route because he won't graduate.
Kentucky Wesleyan, Missouri Western, Midwestern State and Salem are the schools in the mix with Hill, Davis said.
"He's a super athlete who can run and dunk with the best of them," Davis said. "He can shoot with both his left and right hand, and he has great hands."
Back in high school, Hill used to run the 400-meter dash, so he's always been gifted with tremendous speed for a big man.
JUCO Junction will keep you posted on his situation this spring. Stay tuned!
