More Schools Looking at DeGroot

Several colleges are making their pitches this winter to Travis DeGroot.
DeGroot, a strong 6-2, 190 pound sophomore point guard from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M., is one of the top floor generals in the JC Class of 2004.

After sitting out the 2002-2003 campaign, DeGroot is just now starting to play like he did two years ago as a freshman at NMMI, when the Broncos reached the Region V semis.
"Travis is kicking into full gear now," NMMI Head Coach Reggie Franklin told JUCO Junction. "He has gotten better as the year has gone on."
In many ways, DeGroot has to be significantly better this season, because he doesn't have nearly the supporting cast that he had two years ago as a freshman.
At a classic in Arizona earlier this month, DeGroot averaged 24 points per game as the Broncos won two of three games. He's also had games of 27, 24 and 23 points since NMMI began WJCAC play this month.
A host of colleges have expressed interest in DeGroot this winter, including Fordham, New Mexico State, Arizona State, South Carolna, Arizona, Houston, Lamar and Georgia State. His lone official visit back in the fall was to Georgia State.
"He's physcially big and strong enough to play anywhere in the country," Franklin said.
JUCO Junction would agree with that statement, although we were left with some questions about DeGroot's demeanor at the Mullen/Mitchell Jamboree back in Octoner. At times, he can be stubborn to a fault, especially when it comes to his decision making.
Coach Franklin anticipates that DeGroot will graduate in May. We'll certain keep you posted on his athletic exploits and recruitment in the weeks to come. Stay tuned!
