Northeasterns Howard Commits to Creighton

Dennis Howard, a 6-7, 215 pound combo forward from Northeastern J.C. in Sterling, Colo., committed to Creighton on Tuesday.
According to NJC Head Coach Brian Joyce, Howard picked the Blue Jays over Murray State.

"It was really close," Joyce said. "He liked Coach Cronin a lot and he had a great visit to Murray State."
"He just felt that Creighton was a better fit for him academically and athletically," Joyce continued. "It was nothing against Murray State. Creighton is such a solid school, and he wanted to take advantage of the basketball opportunity and education there."
A native of Fort Worth, Tex., Howard was a core member of last year's Plainsmen squad, averaging nine point and five rebounds per game. He shot 44 percent from the field, 41 percent beyond the arc and 64 percent from the foul line in 2002-2003.
Joyce is expecting even bigger things from Howard in 2003-2004.
"Creighton is getting a player who is versatile, because he can play inside and outside," Joyce said. "He's good around the basket and has great touch, and he works hard -- he has an intensity that rubs off on other players."
"He's physical, he rebounds and he scores both inside and out," Joyce concluded.
Howard, who will graduate in the spring, will have two years of eligibility at Creighton.
He is the third Plainsmen sophomore to commit this fall. Earlier this month, 6-9 Derek Wabbington pledged to Wyoming, and 6-6 small forward John DeGroat committed to Pittsburgh.
