Odessa has talent to offer

Odessa College head coach Dennis Helms is in his 28th year of coaching this season. Helms is currently (605-242) in that period of time. While at Odessa College, Helms is (307-87). This is his second stop at the OC. The Wranglers have a talented bunch of sophomores this coming season. OC assistant coach Mike Scutero had a chance to touch with JucoJunction on some of the Wranglers.
The Wranglers have 12 newcomers to the program this season. Dragoslav Papic, (SO) 6-foot-9 (210) from Serbia has already decided on where he will attend school after leaving OC. Jesse Joseph: (SO) 6-foot-7 (200) Opa Locka, FL. Joseph will take a official visit this weekend to Georgia Southern University. Jesse averaged 3.6 ppg and 4.1 rebounds last season.
"Jesse is a very active player that is long armed like Dennis Rodman. He really likes to rebound the basketball and has this uncanny ability to change and block shots," said Scutero.
Marist, Bradley and Murray State have shown interest in the post player.
Jamel Guyton: (SO) 6-foot-2 (185) from Odessa, TX.
"Jamel is a fixture in the city of Odessa. He prepped at Odessa High School where he averaged 20 ppg," said Scutero.
Jamel averaged 16.8 ppg last season and made 1st team all-conference honors for the Wranglers. Guyton has interest from Weber State, Bradley, Virginia Commonwealth, Texas Tech, Houston, Baylor and Oklahoma this fall. Guyton was invited to play in Mullens JUCO 120 Camp this past summer in Tulsa, OK but didn't play because he was injured at the time.
"Jamel has a great ability to put the ball in the basket and is very athletic," said Scutero.
Dexter McMarion, Carlos Rodriquez and Delrico Lane are the other sophomores in the Wranglers program this season. McMarion, (SO) 6-foot-2 (185) guard from Pflugerville, TX, Rodriquez, (SO) 6-foot-3 (200) from Puerto Rico and Lane, (SO) 6-foot-0 (185) from Greensboro, FL.
