PAC 10 Transplant Vance Surveying Options @Skyline

To say that Sal Vance burned a year of eligibility last season might be an understatement.
As a high school senior in Oakland, Calif., Vance qualified late and was a last minute addition to Jay John's first recruiting class at Oregon State in 2002.

The 6-8, 225 pound Vance appeared in five games and played a total of 140 seconds at Oregon State before leaving at the semester break. Those 140 seconds cost him a year of eligibility, but he has used his sophomore year at Skyline College in San Bruno, Calif., to get back on the Division I radar screen.
"Sal runs, is athletic but has developing skills," Skyline Head Coach Tony Raffetto told JUCO Junction in a recent interview. "His low post game is a work in progress, although he can score via the jump hook with his back to the basket."
"More than anything, he is a quick and athletic power forward," Raffetto concluded.
In only his second year of true organized basketball, Vance averaged 15.4 points and 8.8 rebounds for the Trojans. He shot 48.5 percent from the field and 68 percent from the foul line for Skyline, which finished 6-18.
Off the floor, Vance has worked hard in the weight room and now benches a max of 305 pounds.
Raffetto said that Vance will visit New Mexico State from March 12-14. Other colleges in the mix include Pepperdine, Fullerton State and Boise State.
Raffetto said that Vance will graduate in the spring. JUCO Junction will stay abreast of any new information that comes to light regarding Vance's situation in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
